Diners-
Rio Grande Diner - Located on the main drag(Rt47) in Rio Grande the Rio Grande diner is your basic Jersey diner. They have a good breakfast menu which we have enjoyed on several occasions. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. In the off season getting in doesn't seem to be a problem.
Las Vegas Diner - This is another basic diner. Located on New Jersey Avenue in North Wildwood it has typical diner food and ambiance. Prices are a little higher than the Rio Grande; probably because it is on the island. We only ate there once but the food was good.
Surfside West Diner - Dot wasn't coming down until later in the day so I was on my own for breakfast. I had been by this place located on New Jersey Ave in Wildwood several times and decided to give it a go. I should have been wary when they had the open flag out and the parking lot was empty on Memorial day weekend. I had an omelet and coffee and it was nothing special. In fact...it was pretty bad.
Star Diner - If you head north on New Jersey Ave it will become Spruce Rd before it leaves the island and there you will see the Star diner. When we first went in I couldn't help thinking it was a very nice diner. It was clean, reasonably well appointed and even had clean menu's. We both had breakfast and the food and service were very good. This may be the best diner we have been to in the area.
Sand Castle - Not really a diner but a motel restaurant, it is located two blocks south of the condo on Ocean Ave. I don't think I would go there for dinner but for a quick breakfast it is more than adequate. I've never had to wait and the service is good. The food is good and the prices are average.
The Admiral - This is another motel restaurant that is very close to the condo. It's located just one block north. They "specialize" in omelets and although it isn't anything fancy they are pretty good. I like their Italian omelet with Pepperoni and cheese. I'm pretty sure it contains at least 2000 calories and enough fat to clog all of your arteries, but I like it none the less. Not expensive and close are probably what it most has going for it.
The Royal Grill - Located in the Royal hotel; the Royal grill is about a three block walk north along the bike path. This may be my favorite place that is within walking distance of the condo. The food is good and the presentation is better than most of the places within walking distance. The attached hotel is fairly large and depending on when you show up you may have to wait a few minutes. Their breakfast menu is good and every time I have been it has been consistent. They also serve lunch and dinner during the peak season but I have yet to give it a try.
Restaurants-
Rio Grande Station - This place was deceptive! It is located just off of Rt 47 across the street from Lowes. When we went we didn't know what to expect but judging from all of the pickups in the dirt parking lot we expected a redneck local joint. Wrong! It turned out to be a fairly upscale restaurant. Linen table cloths, full menu and yes, they serve booze. I had ribs and they were pretty good. Prices are moderate, you can expect to pay $20 for an entree. Overall I would rate this place to be good, maybe a 7 out of 10. We went on a Saturday night and walked right in but I believe they take reservations. Again this was in the off season.
Duffy's - We went to dinner here with friends from Dot's work. Duffy's in located on Farragut Rd on the bay end. The restaurant overlooks the bay and has nice views of the sunset. I had Chicken Parmesan and it was decent. Since it is located in Wildwood Crest they don't serve alcohol, but I saw several people who brought their own. It's in the Crest so BYOB if you want a drink. Prices are around $20 for an entree. Again, I would rate this place as good but maybe only a 6 out of 10.
Dog Tooth Grill - Located next to Kona Sports on New Jersey Avenue in Wildwood this is a fairly nice place. We had sandwiches for lunch and the food was pretty good. They serve liquor and the prices are moderate with lunch running about $10 per person. I had a pulled pork sandwich and it was good. I would rate this one a 7 out of 10.
Bandana's - Bandana's is part Mexican restaurant, part takeout joint and part ice cram parlor. We got Mexican takeouts and the food was pretty good. I got a taco salad and Dot got a combo dinner. The food is really more Tex-Mex than real Mexican but good none the less. Bandana's doesn't have a liquor license but they encourage patrons to BYOB. I like Tex-Mex food and found this to be pretty good earning it an 8 out of 10.
Idaho Sweets BBQ - Located at the corner of New Jersey Ave and Andrews Ave, Idaho Sweets is really a takeout place, They do have a small seating area, but I would really recommend it for takeouts. I had the St Louis Ribs and found them to be quite tasty. I also had the Idaho Sweets which are french fried sweet potatoes. They were outstanding! Finally, I had the baked beans and cornbread which were only average. I would rate Idaho Sweets an 8 out of 10 but hey, I'm a big fan of barbeque.
Note: I try to pickup menus from places that will give me one and they are in a binder in the condo.
